Planning a trip to Disneyland is often a dream come true for many families eager to enjoy the lively amusement park. Although its location and cost have traditionally been significant obstacles, the price of admission to Walt Disney’s glorified playground just got even steeper.
According to a new report from Southern California’s Orange County Register, Disneyland has raised ticket prices on its daily and annual passes to what can only be described as historic levels. As of October 9, Disneyland and Disney California Adventure ticket prices have risen six percent. Likewise, Disneyland’s cheapest Magic Key annual pass price has increased by 20 percent.
In layman’s terms, Disneyland’s seven-tier single-park ticket prices have increased to the following prices:
- Tier 0: $104
- Tier 1: $126
- Tier 2: $142
- Tier 3: $164
- Tier 4: $180
- Tier 5: $196
- Tier 6: $206
Folks inclined to purchase Disneyland’s Magic Key annual pass got hit with a price hike increase ranging from six to 20 percent. Here’s a breakdown of the Magic Key pass price increase according to the Orange County Register:
- Inspire Pass (up 6%): $1,749
- Believe Pass (up 10%): $1,374
- Enchant Pass (up 14.7%): $974
- Imagine Pass (up 20% exclusively for Southern California residents): $599
To demonstrate the steepness of ticket prices for budget-conscious individuals, the highest-priced single-park, one-day ticket at Disneyland has historically surpassed the $200 mark for the first time in its 69-year existence. For perspective, this exact ticket cost just $96 a decade ago.
Multiday tickets experienced a similar price hike. Now, two-day park tickets have gone from $310 to $330. Likewise, three-day tickets for single-park access rose from $390 to $415.
Fortunately, not every minutia of Disneyland’s ticket pricing saw a rise in cost. For example, the lowest-priced one-day park ticket is still at its circa 2019 price of $104. Moreover, Disneyland’s cheapest one-day park hopper ticket has maintained its $169 price tag. So as not to “scare the hoes,” as the kids say, Disneyland is offering new discount promotions to prospective parkgoers. Such discounts include $50 tickets for kiddos and a 25 percent hotel discount.
While there appears to be no apparent justification for the price increase other than sheer greed as the park gears up to celebrate its 70th anniversary next year and the launch of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in November, the Orange County Register points out that the park’s ticket price hikes typically result in a domino effect, with competing theme parks such as Universal Studios and SeaWorld also raising their prices.
Hopefully, the capitalistic spirit of competition will blow the opposite way, leading the aforementioned parks to loosen their icy grip on folks’ wallets and give their disposable income more breathing room than Disney has permitted.
